My Artistic Statement
A work in progress...

Picture
Core Colors:
So these are my "Fundamental Three." Yellow Ochre, Indian Red, and Prussian Blue.

Call it superficial if you want, but I chose them because they connect to me, and I connect with them. I searched through my paints and color charts to find the yellow, blue, and red that made me feel something. These three are the result.

I find them to be rich, powerful, and moving. For me, their presence in paintings evokes feeling, atmosphere, and energy.  They are rich colors and will overpower others.

My favorite of the three: Prussian Blue.

Although I'm not very comfortable with the name and implications, Indian Red is my primary red. It's a color in the same realm as Frank Lloyd Wrights Cherokee Red. I love how it flows in the earth color world.

Prussian Blue has a long and interesting history. Too long to talk about here. Van Gough, Picasso, Cezanne, all used the color. It is powerful and emotional.

Yellow Ochre has been with us for thousands of years. It brings in the warmth of the sun and the moment. It's earthy and rich and, again, powerful.

L.S. Lowry said, "I am a simple man and I use simple materials: Ivory Black, Vermilion, Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre, Flake White and no medium. That’s all I’ve ever used in my paintings."
